5 cops face murder case for custodial death in UP

Lakhimpur Kheri SP Rajendra Singh said that the police had admitted Bhagwani 51 at the district hospital when his condition deteriorated at the police station on Monday morning.

The records at the emergency section of the hospital showed that the police said the man was suffering from dehydration,he said. Kheri police station SO Shivajeet Singh had arrested Bhagwani and his son Lalji following complaint of a fight with his brother Sitaram at Loniyanpurwa village on Sunday night. Bhagwanis condition deteriorated on Monday morning at the police lock-up and he was rushed to the hospital. He died during treatment after an hour. His son Lalji,who was in the same lock-up,lodged a complaint alleging that the SO and four other policemen had tortured his father,causing him serious injuries. He fell unconscious and died at the hospital,he alleged.
