As protests in the Valley entered the 100th day on Saturday,three more people were killed in Palhalan Pattan in North Kashmir and Anantnag town in South Kashmir. Meanwhile,another person who had sustained a bullet injury five days back died on Saturday,taking the total toll to four.
Early in the day,there were protests in Anantnag when locals recovered the body of Yawar Ahmad,23,who had drowned five days back when police were chasing a group of protesters. Twelve people were injured when the security forces opened fire on the crowd carrying Ahmads body. One of the injured,Noor-ul-Ameen Dagga,22,later succumbed to his injuries. Five others are reported to be critical.
Daggas death sparked fresh protests,as people defied curfew at several places. A senior leader of the youth wing of the Peoples Democratic Party,identified as Bilal Ahmad Najar,was reported to have been hit by a bullet at Anantnag town.
In Palhalan village in North Kashmir,four people were injured during firing by security forces. Two youths,Ansar-ul-Haq and Ali Mohammad Waza later succumbed to their injuries. The fresh killings triggered massive protests in the area. Locals alleged that the security forces opened fire without any provocation.
A huge mob attempted to block the Srinagar-Baramulla National Highway near Palhalan Pattan,and also started pelting stones on the security forces. In an effort to control the situation,three persons got injured. Later,two persons,both residents of Palhalan,succumbed to their injuries, said a police spokesman.
Meanwhile,curfew was relaxed in Srinagar city in a phased manner on Saturday.
