The three-and-a-half-year-old boy,who was kidnapped from Golden Temple on Friday night, was on Sunday found abandoned near Gurdwara Shaheedan in Amritsar.
While the child,Gurmilap Singh, was found by a woman who runs a shop outside the gurdwara around 11 am,she waited till 5 pm for his parents to come. When that did not happen, she took the child to the B-Division police station.
Gurmilaps hair was found cut when he was recovered. According to the police, this was done by the accused in an attempt to change his looks and conceal his identity.
The kidnapping was captured on CCTV cameras installed at the Parikarma of Golden Temple. The footage showed an unidentified woman picking up Gurmilap who was sleeping along side his father and leaving.
Circulation of CCTV images to the media and others have helped put pressure on kidnappers and thus they abandoned the boy at Gurdwara Shaheedan. He was crying and telling people that his name was Gurmilap and his fathers name was Manjit Singh, Kotwali Station House Officer Sukhwinder Singh said.
When contacted,Amritsar Deputy Commissioner of Police Kaustubh Sharma said: The only thing the child has said so far is that he was taken away in a bus. We are first handing over the child to parents. After that we will ask him in detail where he was taken and whether he knows the persons who took him away.
