At least three anti-Posco activists were killed and another seriously injured while they were allegedly making bombs at Patana village in Jagatsinghpur district

At least three anti-Posco activists were killed and another seriously injured while they were allegedly making bombs at Patana village in Jagatsinghpur district Saturday evening.

Jagatsinghpur SP Satyabrata Bhoi said the three, were killed in the blast at around 6 pm. We suspect a gunpowder bag that was kept for making bombs, caught fire. The victims are Narahari Sahu,Mania Jena and Nabani Mandal. They were making bombs in the backyard of Sura Das,an anti-Posco activist, he said. Another villager was reportedly injured in the blast.

Patana and Dhinkia are considered strongholds of anti-Posco protesters. The two villages have been excluded from Poscos acquisition plans due to the protests. Last month, villagers from these two villages thwarted the district administrations attempt to demolish betelvine for subsequent acquisition of the land by Posco.

However,Posco Pratirodh Sangram Samiti, which is spearheading the protest said,The police accusation is baseless. Pro-Posco villagers hurled bombs on our people under the cover of darkness. After its failure in acquiring land for Posco last month, the state government deployed force for another attempt at land acquisition. By killing our supporters, the state government is trying to browbeat us, said PPSS president Abhay Sahu.
