Former Telecom minister A Raja on Tuesday accused a former senior DoT official, who is a key witness in the 2G spectrum case,of being under pressure of the CBI to depose falsely on certain crucial aspects of the case.
Rajas lawyer Sushil Kumar, who was cross-examining A K Srivastava,a former Deputy Director General of the Department of Telecom, pointed out that the documents on record showed that Srivastava had not told the CBI in his initial statement that Chandolia, the then
private secretary of Raja, had asked him whether Unitech Groups applications have been received by the department.
Rajas counsel questioned Srivastava regarding his statement during his deposition before the court of Special Judge O P Saini that Chandolia had told him that Unitechs application would be submitted to the DoT,asking the witness the reason he had said this in his statement to the CBI till March 21.
The CBI has recorded 13 statements from the former official, with the first statement being recorded on November 26,2011.
Srivastava denied Rajas accusations saying that the fact relating to Chandolia, asking him about Unitech Groups applications, was explained to the CBI by him. The fact was explained to the CBI when investigating officer asked. It is wrong to suggest that I have deposed about these two facts before this court under pressure of the CBI, said Srivastava in his reply.
He had earlier deposed that Chandolia had asked him to stop receiving new applications for 2G spectrum licences once the Unitech Group firms submitted them.
