IIM-Lucknow student Rahul Verma is understood to have confessed to the murder of Mumbai-based fashion designer Aadesh Bajpai in his hostel room at IIT-K in August 2008. It is also learnt that two of his batchmates helped in disposal of the body.
Sources said Verma, who is being questioned by CBI since Wednesday, has given various reasons for the murder. The CBI is verifying his statement, they added.
Verma was taken to IIT-K on Friday to verify the spot of the crime and to reconstruct the sequence of events,as narrated by him.
Bajpai and Verma knew each other through a social networking site popular with gay men. Bajpai, then visiting Kanpur, went missing from the IIT-K campus on August 10,2008. He was last seen with Verma. Later, his acid-washed bones were found in a gunny bag on IIT-K campus. The CBI,which is investigating the case on the order of the Allahabad High Court, arrested Verma on Wednesday.
CBI sources said Verma named two batchmates who,he claimed, were his accomplices in the disposal of Bajpais body, which was cut into pieces and dissolved in acid. The bones were put in a gunny bag which was thrown at a deserted spot on the IIT-K campus.
Verma is believed to have told the investigators that he never planned to kill Bajpai. He had come to know about Vermas friendship with someone else and was angry. Their argument turned violent and Verma allegedly first attacked Bajpai with a kitchen knife and then strangled him.
He later took two of his close friends and batchmates into confidence. They arranged for acid, cut the body into pieces and dissolved it into acid part by part.
