
CHANDIGARH, Aug 22: The vegetable prices, especially of tomato, have skyrocketed once again. The prices have been vacillating according to the amount of rainfall in the hills.
Three days back, tomato prices had come down to Rs 24 per kg, from Rs 32. However, the prices rose to Rs 40 per kg the next day in the phari market and even higher in some sectors. Even in Sector 26 market, the prices varies from Rs 20 to Rs 30 per kg.
While onions are available at Rs 10 per kg, potatoes, pahari variety, are available at Rs 10 per kg. While the price of peas is Rs 30 per kg, cauliflower is fetching as high as Rs 40 per kg prices.
While brinjals cost only Rs 12 per kg, capsicum prices are set at Rs 24 per kg. The supply of fresh garlic has increased and is available at rates ranging from Rs 25 to Rs 40 per kg.
However, prices of green chillies have come substantially. Earlier available at Rs 40 per kg, they are now being sold at prices ranging from Rs 10 to Rs 20 per kg.
Vendors expect the prices to fluctuate further, depending on the weather conditions and the supply of vegetables.
