Ahead of December exams, Education dept asks schools to arrange 800 students for the inaugural function of an athletics meet
More than 20 schools in the city have been asked to arrange a crowd of 800 schoolchildren for the inaugural ceremony of the 54 Punjab State Athletics Championship to be held at the Guru Nanak Stadium from Friday. Thenbsp;instructions were issued on Wednesday on the orders of Sudesh Bajaj, District Education Officer Secondary, Ludhiana.
The order has sent schoolteachers and students into a tizzy as December examinations are on the anvil and students of higher classes are awfully busy.
Requesting anonymity, a schoolteacher said, 8220;We have been asked to arrange 800 students for the inaugural show and reach Guru Nanak Stadium at 9:30 am. It will take about four hours for the function to get over. One can imagine the plight of students who are busy with their studies.8221;
Another teacher said, 8220;We have been asked not to bring primary students but students of senior classes. We are in the doldrums. Instead of trying to make the public attend the function, it is ridiculous to force schoolchildren to turn up as enthusiastic crowd.8221;
Meanwhile, Sudesh Bajaj she said, 8220;I am in Chandigarh since yesterday. You can talk to Assistant Education Officer Rupinder Singh about it.8221;
While justifying the move, Rupinder said, 8220;We have asked some schools to arrange children for the inaugural function. This is an event of and for children. And tomorrow8217;s function will be about three hours only. We have asked the schools not to bring the children below Class V.8221;
