MUMBAI, JUNE 25: The Sharad Pawar led Nationalist Congress Party NCP would be open to a dialogue with the Congress after the mid-term Lok Sabha polls in the event of a hung parliament provided there was a firm assurance that no person of foreign origin would be projected as either prime minister or deputy prime minister, NCP spokesperson Vasant Chavan said here today.
Chavan told media persons that NCP would be willing to enter into a dialogue with all secular parties including the Congress after the polls to stop the march of communal forces to power at the Centre. NCP remained equidistant from both the Congress and the BJP, he reiterated.
On the ongoing efforts by the Indian Army to throw out foreign intruders from Kargil area of Kashmir, he lambasted prime minister A B Vajpayee for not considering with due seriousness8217; the plea of the Army chief Gen V P Malik for permission to cross the Line of Control LoC to cut supply lines of the intruders.
However, Chavan who has been authorised to speak on national level issues by Pawar, clarified that the time was not yet ripe for Indian Army to cross the LoC into Pakistan.
PM should have at least consulted the opposition parties on the matter and called an all-party meeting so that various alternatives and measures could be discussed to tackle the intrusion by Pakistan backed infiltrators8217;, he added.
