As the residents of Sector 16 list their complaints, two common problems come to the fore 8212; waterlogging and parking woes.
The heavy rainfall that pelted the city recently has intensified the problem leaving the low-lying areas inundated with water.
Samvadini, a resident of the sector says, 8220;The problem of waterlogging is acute in our sector. The slightest of rainfall can cause blockage in some areas. There needs to be an improvement in the sewerage system to prevent the problem. We had to face a tough time during the rains.8221;
With a government school present in the sector, there is a constant struggle for parking as students who do not have valid licences to park their vehicles in the nearby market.
Mohit, a resident, says, 8220;There is little space for parking and several times the vehicles can be seen lined up on the road. Proper planning is the need of the hour.8221;
Pointing out the presence of a liquor shop in the area, Mohit adds, 8220;It should be closed as a liquor shop should not be present in close proximity of the school.8221; While urging for better upkeep of the parks, the residents asked for clearance of overgrown grass and waste construction material. Despite a fine imposed for dumping waste, scant regard is being paid to it.
Area councillor Mayor Pardeep Chhabra, however, maintained that development plans for the sector are on the anvil. 8220;The parks are being taken care of and after the monsoons end, these would be spruced up. The recarpetting of roads would also be done,8221; he added.
He also added: 8220;Paver blocks are being laid in different parts of the sector. A Sehaj Safai Kendra has been approved for the sector. This will deal with the problem of dumping of garbage. Swings and benches are being installed in various parks. While work has already been done at some places, it would be completed in the coming days. Beautification of Shanti Kunj is going on. Work is also being done through MPLAD funds.8221;
