Washington Post bags 6 Pulitzer awards

In the International Reporting category, Post8216;s Steve Fainaru won for his reporting on private security contractors in Iraq who operate outside most of the laws governing American forces.

The New York Times won the award for Explanatory Reporting and shared with Chicago Tribune for Investigative Reporting.

Pakistani-born and Bangkok based photographer Adrees Latif won the Pulitzer for Reuters in the Breaking News Photography with his shot showing a Japanese videographer sprawled on the payment fatally wounded during a street demonstration in Myanmar.

No award was given for Editorial Writing but Michael Ramirez of Investor8217;s Business Daily won Pulitzer for Editorial Cartooning.

The award for Criticism went to Mark Feeney of the Boston Globe and Preston Gannaway of the Concord Monitor won for Feature Photography.

For Local Reporting, the Pulitzer went to David Umhoefer of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

The awards, established by a Hungarian-American journalist Joseph Pulitzer in 1911, were announced last evening.

The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao won Junot Diaz Riverhead Books award for Fiction.

Robert Hass and Philip Schultz got the Pulitzers for Poetry for their works Time and Materials and Failure respectively.

For Drama, award went to Tracy Letts for August: Osage County and for History to Daniel Walker Howe for his work 8216;What Hath God Wrought8217; Oxford University Press.

John Matteson won in the Biography category for his work Eden8217;s Outcasts.
