NAGPUR, July 26: Former India cricketer and selector, M L Jaisimha suggested that Ajit Wadekar should be made chairman of the Board of Control for Cricket in India8217;s BCCI National selection committee.

8220;As far as Indian selection committee is concerned there is no man except Wadekar, who has gained vast experience of all aspects of the game,8221; the stylish batsman said, adding the present five-man committee should be reduced to a three-man body so that the problems related to zonal quota8217; could be dealt with.

He, however, rejected the suggestion of having only Test cricketers as selectors and said a selector should possess a sound cricketing wisdom. In case of Wadekar, he said former the Indian captain8217;s ability as a coach, manager and administrator was of much higher quality as compared to his other counterparts in the panel.

The Hyderabad cricketer, who was here to attend the Bankers8217; Sports Council8217;s annual prize distribution, expressed his views while addressing newsmen.

Supporting the idea of athree-man committee Jaisimha said, 8220;the zonal representatives tend to select men from their region only and that sometimes denies a good player a chance to play for his country. Indian cricket revolves around zonal system. It8217;s a sad fact,8221; he stated.

The Hyderabad coach raised an objection to the strange selection policy also. 8220;They select the 35-plus Kanwaljit Singh in the India squad and induct 16-year-old Harbhajan in seniors8217; team. In fact, the A8217; team should provide good cricketers to the senior squad. Yahan to Ganga ulti bahati hai,8221; he remarked.

He said those who have represented India do not get a place in India A8217;. That is enough to prove politics in quota-based8217; selection procedure. He also termed an idea of picking 60 probables for various National squads as absurd8217;.
