NEW DELHI, June 1: The thrust of the list of proposals drawn up by the Union Home Ministry for regulation of VVIP security which were discussed at a meeting is that public convenience should not be sacrificed at the altar of VVIP security.
The proposals which have also been sent to the DGCA/Civil Aviation for their opinion include regulation of air traffic during VVIP movement such as the distance of 30 nautical miles to be maintained by other aircraft should be withdrawn and even a proposal to regularise traffic at the Safdarjung airport.
A suggestion to regulate the road traffic before and after the arrival of the VVIP aircraft includes stopping of traffic only on the arrival of the advance pilot at the airport and ten minutes before and after the touchdown.Other suggestions that were also forwarded for discussion were allowing pedestrian movement during the movement of the VVIP, traffic to be stopped for a maximum period of 3 minutes and diverting traffic on alternative routes instead of paralysing entire traffic movement.
To minimise the harassment to public, it has been suggested that vehicles on the VVIP route which are towed away should be returned immediately after the clearance of the route and without any damage done to them.
