VADODARA, Aug 27: The Vadodara Municipal Corporation has urged the State Government to make reservations in the State reservoirs and dams to cater to the city8217;s anticipated future increase in demand for water.

In a letter to Minister for Large Irrigation Schemes Jaynarayan Vyas, Mayor Bharati Vyas said that if a decision was taken in principle at the earliest, the VMC could prepare a project report.

Seeking permission to draw water from the downstream areas of the Narmada dam through the main canal of the Sardar Sarovar Project, the Mayor said said the VMC could pay for the same. In the city, the VMC could get this water from near Ajwa reservoir, Gorwa, Nimeta or Chhani, she added.

It may be recalled that a few days ago Chief Minister Keshubhai Patel had ruled out the possibility of giving water from the dam.
