VADODARA, Oct 12: The Vadodara Municipal Corporation VMC has extended till October 30 the deadline for receiving forms for houses to be constructed for the economically backward sections of the society.

The civic body is to construct 1,272 houses for the weaker sections and those falling in the norms decided earlier would be given the benefit through a draw.

An official spokesman has asked those interested to collect forms from the ward offices only and not from any other place to ensure that they did not get fake forms. He said if needed the date would be extended further.

Interviews held: The VMC on Monday conducted interviews for the posts of safai workers. The safai workers are to be recruited on contract basis and would be paid Rs 32 per day. They will be posted in housing societies and uncovered areas where the VMC plans to start cleaning operations.

Highly placed official sources said cleaning in these areas was likely to begin from November. Earlier, the areas were to be cleaned from August 15. Sources, however, claimed the implementation was delayed as some housing societies took time in submitting applications. There are an estimated 850 housing societies. The sources said the workers might be taken on the corporation rolls in future.

Banners removed: The encroachment removal squad of the VMC on Monday removed a number of unauthorised banners from near the Jubilee garden, Ahmedabadi Pole, Raopura, Tower, Kothi crossroads and railway station area. Besides removing miscellaneous items from various places, a stall selling cups and saucers was also removed from behind the Jubilee garden. Cotton mattresses were also seized from a person from near the Badamdi garden in Dandia bazaar. The wares have been deposited in the VMC8217;s Atladara Stores.
