
Trees uprooted in eastern parts of district
Vadodara: At least 10 trees were uprooted by strong winds experienced in several villages located on the eastern parts of Vadodara district at around 7 pm on Sunday. Officials from Waghodia Mamlatdar office told Express Newsline8217; that the winds lasted for about less than 10 minutes. According to official information, while most of the trees uprooted were along the main road, one tree fell in the Mamlatdar8217;s office itself.
Officials stated the while traffic was badly disrupted, senior collectorate officials had gone to the spot to clear roads. Meanwhile, according to the local met office, the city experienced winds at about a speed of 22 km per hour.
The People8217;s Union for Civil Liberties, Vadodara unit, paid homage to national leader J P Narayan on his birth anniversary on Sunday. A PUCL press note said that the union had pledged to fulfill his dream of human rights for all citizens irrespective of caste, creed, religion and sex.
TA day observed
The 49th Territorial Army Day was celebrated at the 811 Engineer Regiment ONGC TA recently by holding a ceremonial parade. The parade was commanded by Major Y D Kaushik and reviewed by Group General Manager Drilling, ONGC, Jiwaram. A get-together was organised at the officers8217; mess later in the day. Senior army, Air Force, and ONGC officials, besides civil dignitaries were present on the occasion.

IAF functions
A number of programmes were held by the Indian Air Force station, Vadodara here since October 3 to mark the 66th anniversary of the IAF. An official release said that Air Commodore P P Rajkumar read out the messages received from the President of India, the prime minister and the Chief of Air Staff.
Plea for HRC
The Vadodara unit secretary of the People8217;s Union for Civil Liberties PUCL, Dhiru Mistry, met Chief Minister Keshubhai Patel at Mota Fofalia on Thursday and urged him to appoint a Human Rights Commission in Gujarat on the lines of the National Human Rights Commission. The chief minister has called for a meeting with the PUCL in Gandhinagar, a PUCL statement stated.
Bardoli peaceful
Surat: No untoward incident was reported from Bardoli, the town that has witnessed disturbances in the last few days. Union Textile Minister Kashiram Rana, during his visit to Bardoli on Sunday, visited Dhruv and Rupa agencies.
