Cyclone alert sounded in district
Vadodara may come in the path of a cyclone that was learnt to be forming over the Arabian Sea near Goa on Wednesday evening. The district administration sounded an all-district alert on Wednesday evening following a warning from the meteorology department, Gandhinagar.
Resident Deputy Collector C R Kharsan said all official agencies had been alerted. District Superintendent of Police Vadodara rural Shamsher Singh confirmed having received the information and said he had sent messages to all his police stations and chowkis in the district interiors.
Chief Minister Keshubhai Patel will visit Shinor taluka on Thursday, according to an official release, to attend a ceremony to hand over the Community Health Centre, Mota Fofalia, to the Shri Shaktikrupa Charitable Trust. Prior to this, Minister of State for Panchayat Dilip Patel will lay the foundation stone of a water tank. Health Minister Ashok Bhatt and MP Narayan Rathwa will also attend the function.
IE quiz contest
A quiz contest, the fifth event of the The Indian Express-Pepsi Interschool Talent Contest, will be held at the Rosary School on Thursday at 3 p.m. All contestants will take part in the written elimination round; the six top teams will participate in the finals, which will include audio-visual questions.
Strike withdrawn
The proposed strike of the Central Gujarat Petrol and Diesel Dealers8217; Association on Thursday has been called off. An association statement said the strike, to press for their demand to increase dealers8217; commission in the sale of petrol and diesel, had been called off following an agreement in New Delhi on Wednesday. It claimed the Centre had agreed to increase their commission by 5 paisa/litre on petrol and 2 paisa/litre on diesel.

Jubilee function
IPCL8217;s Research and Development Centre in Vadodara celebrated its silver jubilee at a function in Nagothane, about 140 km from Mumbai, on Monday. A day-long seminar, inaugurated by S K Anand, Director operations IPCL, was held to mark the occasion.
44th TA day
The Territorial Army TA Unit of ONGC, designated as 811 Engineers8217; Regiment will celebrate its 49th TA Day on Friday. A variety and cultural programme will begin with ceremonial parade and reviewed by Jiwaram, ONGC general manager Drilling. A get-together for employees and their family members will also be held on the eve of the TDA day. Currently commanded by Col A K Pande, the regiment was raised on March 23, 1983 and has been embodied 12 times.
