
Panther sent to Indroda Park
The three-year old female panther which was trapped by Forest officials recently from the interiors of Waghodia taluka, was sent to Indroda Park, Gandhinagar, on Thursday night. Range officer Janak Jhala said the animal, which had hurt itself by striking its head with the cage’s bars, had been given proper treatment by joint director, Animal Husbandry, P B Parmar and others.
Air pollution seminar organised
Indian Association For Air Pollution Control and Institution of Engineers (India)’s Vadodara Chapter have organised a national seminar on “Air pollution: development at what cost ?” at Vasvik Auditorium on Saturday. Executive director of Gujarat Refinery P S Rao will inaugurate the seminar, while ex-advisor to government of Gujarat (Industries and pollution) Dr R C Trivedi will deliver the key-note address. MSU Vice-chancellor A S Kane will deliver the Dr N L Ramanathan Memorial Lecture. The inaugural session will be followed by three technical sessions in which environmental scientists, engineers, academicians and industries representatives will present their findings on air pollution.
Water management workshop
M/S Drewtreat Chemicals Limited, one of the five largest water-treatment chemical companies in the world, which has been operating in the area for more than 78 years, will hold a workshop on “cooling water management” on October 17 at Hotel Surya Palace.
DSO raids chemical unit in Savli
The district supply officials on Thursday raided a chemical unit, Krishna Enterprises, Savli and seized various petroleum products worth about Rs 2 lakhs from there. Officials said the raid and the subsequent seizure was on the suspicion of adulteration in diesel with kerosene. However, the action was taken when the unit management failed to show proper documents of stock of diesel, kerosene and other petroleum products like white oils. In another inspection later in the day, the officials seized about 340 “bogus ration cards” from the fair price shop of one Narain Damani in the Warasia area of the city. Investigation into both the cases was on, an official spokesman said.
Winners of Anti-Accident week
Winners of different contests held as a part of Anti-Accident Week in various schools of the city were honoured at a special function here at Hill Memorial School. An official release said that assistant commissioner of police Sidharth Khatri and additional collector G R Chaudhary in their respective speeches stressed the need to avoid and prevent accidents.
GECL gets new Managing Director
S K Sekhon, IAS, has taken over as managing director of Gujarat Communications and Electronics Limited (GECL). She belongs to the 1974 batch of IAS officers and is of the rank of Additional Chief Secretary of Government of Gujarat. Prior to her latest posting, she was Commissioner of Higher Education, Gandhinagar.
