Counselling centres to be opened
District Collector Anil Mukim said at least six counselling centres for sexually transmitted diseases STDs, including AIDS, will be opened in the district in near future. This was decided at a meeting between officials of the VMC, the health department, the collectorate, Panchayat and Arun Kumar Sutaria, director, Gujarat AIDS Society here on Monday. A Gujarati play, aimed at creating awareness about STDs, will also be staged in the Gandhi Nagar Gruh on Friday.

Meet cancelled
A meeting of BJP councillors at Nimeta on Tuesday was cancelled following the death of Gujarat Slum Clearance Board GSCB chairman and former city BJP chief Jitendra Sukhadia8217;s mother Shantaben Sukhadia. The councillors were to express resentment over the party8217;s move to make changes in the civic budget. Party sources said the new date of meeting would be decided in a few days. Shantaben, 83, died following a brief illness. Many leading citizens, including party councillors, attended the funeral at Khaswadi crematorium.

Inauguration
Air Marshal S Krishnaswamy will inaugurate the officers8217; residential area complex, comprising 57 houses, at Darjipura on Wednesday. Air Marshal Krishnaswamy is commanding-in-chief of headquarters of South Western Air Command.
