
Staff at airport to join stir
With nearly all of the Indian Airlines IA staff at the Vadodara airport deciding to join the December 11 strike called by employees of the All India Public Sector Undertaking, an acute shortage of staff is expected to be felt at the airport on Friday, affecting flight handling, baggage delivery and other activities. The airlines has therefore advised passengers to travel light on the day, as far possible, carrying only hand baggage. An IA press release stated on Wednesday that the airlines would try to maintain schedules and has solicited the co-operation of the passengers.
Cable fault
After a brief respite, telephones of the 428242;, 448242; and 468242; levels remained dead for a better part of the day on Wednesday. General Manager Rakesh Babu said that while phones had been rendered functional after a temporary joint was made in the faulty cable on Tuesday night, they had been disconnected again on Wednesday to rectify the damage permanently. He added that as the common cable connecting telephones in the Panigate and Karelibaug areas had been damaged, all phones in the two areas had been affected. Babu assured that the repair work would be completed by Wednesday night.
MSU elections
The general elections of the student union of the MSU will be held on December 24 as declared earlier. The contest will be for those in the fray for the post of vice-president, general secretary and faculty representatives. Interested candidates should file in their nominations at the union office by December 16, 3 pm.
Demonstrations
The People8217;s Union for Civil Liberties will hold demonstrations outside the Gandhi Nagar Gruh on the World Human Rights Day on Thursday, according to a statement issued by city PUCL secretary Dhiru Mistry.
