
Nalin Bhatt takes over as GEB chairman
State BJP vice-president Nalin Bhatt on Thursday took charge as chairman of the Gujarat Electricity Board. Addressing the gathering, which included Mayor Bharati Vyas and VMC officer-bearers, Bhatt said he would carry out the responsibility by seeking the support of experts within and outside the Board.
GSFC chairman
Former MP and member of the BJP8217;s National Council K D Jeswani on Thursday took charge as chairman of the Gujarat State Fertilizers and Chemicals. A masters degree holder in general surgery, Jeswani is a fellow of the International College of Surgeons and the Indian Academy of Medical Specialities. Mayor Bharati Vyas, Gujarat Electricity Board chairman Nalin Bhatt and GSFC managing director Gurucharn Singh were among others who welcomed him.
Entrance exam
There are no entrance examinations for students who have secured less than 45 per cent and were seeking admission to the Faculty of Law, M S University, according to Officer on Special Duty Sneha Joshi. 8220;As per the Bar Council instructions to all universities, examinations are conducted only for students who have secured 45 per cent and above in their graduation,8221; she added.
Youth exchange
As part of the International Youth Exchange Programme, the Rotary Club of Baroda will host a Belgian student, Elionore Robin, for a year, while city student Keta Vaidya will proceed to Mazatland in Mexico. During the stay in Mexico, Vaidya will stay with different Rotary families there and also deliver a presentation on India at the local Rotary Clubs. Robin, while studying at Rosary High School, will live with three different families.
Harikatha
Well-known Harikatha8217; artist Nagratna Joshi rendered a performance at the Karnataka Sangha in the city on Thursday as part of the Sangha8217;s Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations. Joshi narrated episodes from the Purankathas, Bhagwatgita, Ramayana and Mahabharata during the two-hour-long performance.
Power theft
The Gujarat Electricity Board detected power theft to the tune of Rs 54.42 lakh between August 3 and 9. Irregularities were detected in 579 cases out of the 5,922 connections checked. The connections checked also included agricultural and industrial connections.
Contest winners
The Regular Unit of Bright School at Karelibaug won the first prize in the inter-school patriotic song competition while students Heli Shah and Dara Tiwari of class V and IV were declared winners of the inter-school quiz competition, recently organised by the Parivar Vidyalay.
Setu function
Social organisation Setu will hold a special function on the City8217;s Problems and their Solution8217; on August 30. Member of Parliament Jayaben Thakkar, Civil Supply Minister Jaspal Singh, Mayor Bharati Vyas and several MLAS will take part in it.
