LUDHIANA, Feb 10: A team from the United States of America won the third Lodhi Cup International kabaddi tournament beating Punjab State Electricity Board (Patiala) 47-42 in the finalhere yesterday.
The winners led 22-21 at the half time.
Earlier in the semifinals, the USA side had beaten Harjit Club, Moga 38-33 while PSEB defeated Malwa Club in a thriller at 48-47.
For the USA team, Balwinder Gandhi, Harvinder Dhulla and Lucky Kurali excelled in the final while PSEB’s resistance came from Inderjit Singh Phullawalia and Bhima.
National Throwball
Rohtak: The 21st Senior National Throwball Championship both for men and women will be organised from 12 February to 15 at Chhotu Ram Polytechnic grounds.
More than 300 men and women players from Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Karnataka, Rajashan, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chandigarh, Bihar, Andhra, Punjab, Delhi, Orissa, Himachal Pardesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Gujarat and Haryana would be participating. The matches will be played on league basis, said J.L. Khurana, Organising Secretary of Haryana Throwball Association.
Himachal team
Shimla: A 57-member Himachal Pradesh team, including 13 officials will participate in the fifth National Games to be held at Imphal, Manipur from february 14 to 25.
According to a press release issued here today, this is the first time that Himachal Pradesh has qualified in seven disciplines.
The Department of Youth Services and Sports has also organised a 10-day coaching camp for all players. The Games in which the Himachal players are participating include teakwondo, volleyball, judo, athletics, boxing, archery and shooting.
Soccer team
Chandigarh: The selection committee of the Punjab Women’s Football Association selected a 20-member Punjab team which will take part in theVth National Games to be held at Imphal from February 14 to 25. According to PWFA secretary Surinder Bhambri, the players attended a 26-day coaching camp.
International Gurmeet Kaur will lead the team. The other members are: Amandeep Kaur, Baljit Kaur, Davinder Kaur, Sukhwinder Kaur, Kulwinder Kaur, Jaswinder Kaur, Malkit Kaur, Ranjit Kaur, Harkamal, Rajwant Kaur, Rajwinder Kaur, Rachhpal Kaur, Sunita, Gursharajit Kaur, Harjinder Kaur, Rajwinder Kaur and Rajvir Kaur.
Ram Lubhaya Prabhakar and Joginder Singh will accompany the team as manager and coach respectively.
