.

With the United States making it public that the nuclear deal would be off if India conducts nuclear tests, CPIM General Secretary Prakash Karat on Thursday accused the UPA government of cheating the people of the country on the issue.

8220;We knew it three months back. The Government has cheated the people of the country,8221; Karat told reporters when asked for his reaction on the disclosure of correspondence between the Bush administration and US Congress.

In a statement, the CPIM politburo on Thursday said its stand on the deal stood vindicated with the 8220;disclosures8221; by the US on the issue and asked the government to suspend all further moves to go ahead with the 8220;anti-national8221; agreement.

Noting that the US has given 8220;no binding fuel supply assurance8221; to the country, the party said that the Manmohan Singh Government was 8220;thoroughly exposed8221; before the country for 8220;compromising8221; India8217;s vital security interests.
