Even as the Government braces up to face an Opposition emboldened by the Bihar victory and armed with the Volcker report, new Parliamentary Affairs Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi put up a brave front, asserting that the government was ready for any discussion.

Downplaying the likely impact of the RJD-Congress8217; defeat in Bihar polls on the running of Parliament, Dasmunsi said: 8216;8216;In a democracy, there is kabhi khushi kabhi gham for all parties.8217;8217;

But contrary to Dasmunsi8217;s rhetorical soundbytes8212;8216;8216;the government will have neither high blood pressure nor low blood pressure8217;8217;8212;by all indications the first week of the Winter session is expected to be a complete washout.

8216;8216;The real session will begin from November 28. The first week will go to Volcker and Bihar,8217;8217; sources in the government said.

On how the Iraq issue will unfold in the Parliament, Dasmunsi said it was 8216;8216;most logical, ethical and legal8217;8217; for Natwar Singh, named in the Volcker Committee report on the deal, to make a suo motu statement.

The Left is also ready to do its bit 8212; Iran, amendments on Pension Bill and even the Volcker report.

8216;8216;We told the government and the Speaker, we too want a discussion on Volcker. The scope of the Pathak Committee probe must be expanded to cover the oil deals of the Vajpayee regime 8212; after all former Petroleum Minister Ram Naik led an Indian Oil delegation to Saddam8217;s Iraq8230;8217;8217; said CPM8217;s Rupchand Pal.
