PUNE, JUNE 14: Zeroes are meaningless without natural numbers. But not for the University of Pune which, it seems, badly requires some basic lessons in mathematics!
Displaying sheer callousness in preparation of results, the university has declared a top-scorer failed 8220;by messing up compilation of marks.8221; Amar Rajmal Kakaria, a student of Brihan Maharashtra College of Commerce has been the innocent victim.
Amar had scored cent percent marks in Advanced Accountancy subject in the second year B Com examination last year with an aggregate percentage of 74. This year too, Amar, with a brilliant academic record, was confident of getting a distinction. Quite so, he scored 78.3 per cent in the final year. This time he scored 75 marks in the Advanced Accountancy-II.
While awarding the degree and grades for a three year course, the university considers the marks of second and final year. An aggregate marklist of both the years is prepared for this purpose.
However, Amar8217;s aggregate marklist for second and final year had his second year advanced accountancy score of 100 reduced to a 8220;zero.8217; He was declared failed in the final marklist which he collected from his college yesterday.
Amar is confused and wants his 8220;1008221; marks back. 8220;Had it been the case like wrong marking, I would have applied for revaluation. But here it is the mistake in compiling the two years marks,8221; said Amar who is now worried about his admission for the intermediate course for Company Secretary. Surprisingly, this is for the second time that Amar has been subjected to problem due to university8217;s fault. In his first year results, he was given only 15 marks out of 100 in Commercial Arithmatics and Statistics. When he applied for revaluation, his marks were changed to 95. Significantly, the university has announced its plans to introduce the moderation system as a fool-proof method of assessment of examination papers for all degree courses. It is aimed at phasing out the revaluation system.
