CHANDIGARH, May 16: Bharat Vikas Parishad distributed uniforms and stationery items to some 500 needy students today at a function organised at Guru Gobind Singh Bhawan, Sector 15.

Many of the poor students, who attended the function, were orphans and dependent on their relatives.

Nanoo, mother of two children, withdrew her children from school last year. quot;I could not pay school fees after my husband died. But the teachers helped me in getting this scholarship. And ever since I have been able to get help to help Sandeep and Sunita pursue their studies,quot; she says.

Swami Pitambra Nand, secretary Ram Krishana Mission, was the chief guest. Some of the students honoured for good academic performance were: Manisha, Rajni, Pradeep all from Government Senior Secondary School, Sector 15; Suman Kumar Government High School, Sector 11; Usha, Surmilla, Usha all from Government High School, Sector 28; Kalawati, Ashok Kumar, Prabhu Shankar all from Government High School, Sector 26; Goldie Government High School, Sector 41; Kavita, Dimple Rana, Tajda, Umesh, Rekha, Shikha, Heena, Kulwant Rai from Sarvhitkari Vidya Mandir, Sector 27; Suman Thakur, Lalita, Geeta Government High School, Sector 24; Reenu, Neelam, Parveen Government High School, Sector 25; Ramesh, Neelam Government High School, Sector 35; Arun Kumar Government High School, Manimajra; Dinesh Sharma GMS, Sector 31, and; Anjali GMS, Sector 40.

The Parishad distributes uniforms, shoes and books among the poor students every year. The students are referred to us mostly through schools, said S.D. Sharma, secretary of BVP.
