Unicity Project developers asked to stop work

The Zirakpur Municipal Council MC issued notice on Wednesday to the developers of the Unicity Project to stop work with immediate effect for allegedly undertaking unapproved construction on the Zirakpur-Panchkula highway near the railway track.

Sources said Unicity had already initiated the work of constructing a business park.

Excessive digging of the ground for the project had reportedly resulted in the collapse of an adjoining two-storeyed building on November 13.

The incident has created panic among the residents of adjoining housing society 8212; New Generation Apartments Phase-V.

Subsequently, the Residents Welfare Association RWA had requested the MC to check the alleged illegal construction activity.

Taking cognisance of the complaint, the civic officials conducted an investigation, which termed the construction as 8220;unapproved8221;.

MC Executive Officer Girish Verma said: 8220;The owners of the Unicity Project have been asked to give an explanation regarding the progress before the grant of approval.8221;

On the other hand, H R Garg, one of the partners in the Unicity Project, said: 8220;We have not received a notice as yet.8221;

He claimed that their project has already been duly approved by the Chief Town Planner.
