Una SEZ gets Centre146;s nod

The proposed SEZ, coming up close to Gagret, will have an investment of Rs 4,500 crore, of which the major component would be an international airport on the banks of Swan river.

When contacted, Director Industries Manoj Kumar confirmed that a meeting of the committee on SEZ was slated for September 22 and the Skil SEZ project for Una was on the agenda. 8220;Our representatives were also there, but we have no details yet,8221; he said.

But this is not without sharp reactions from the locals, who have already formed a joint action committee called Matrabhumi Sangharsh Samiti.

8220;We have called a meeting of the samiti on September 28 and next course of action will be announced then. There are 24 villages that will be affected by the SEZ and all families in these villagers are opposed to the proposal,8221; said Narinder Singh Parmar, a leader of the sangharsh samiti.
