PUNE, March 25: Two youths from Uttar Pradesh, allegedly involved in manufacturing and selling illegal firearms, were arrested and a cache of arms and ammunition was seized during a swoop down at Kondhwa early on Wednesday.They pointed a gun at the policemen chasing them and threatened to open fire. Some police officials engaged the duo in a conversation, while others overpowered them.More arms and ammunition were seized in a subsequent raid at two houses at Kondhwa Khurd where Ashok Prayagdutt Dubey (32) and Daniel Victor (33) had allegedly set up a workshop to manufacture weapons.Ashok and Daniel were produced before a judicial magistrate (first class) in the afternoon. They have been remanded in police custody.Dubey, from Hatwa in Uttar Pradesh, resides at Babar Chawl and Daniel, from Agra, stays at Bhade Chawl.The Wanowrie police, were tipped off about a meeting for a deal along the road linking Kondhwa with Undri-Pisoli on Tuesday night.A police team led by deputy commissioner of police Jagan Nath, assistant commissioner of police Pratap Dighavkar, inspector Babajan Tamboli and sub inspector Jaan Mohammed Pathan laid a trap to arrest the duo. The duo were walking towards Kondhwa from Undri when they were caught on Wednesday morning. The duo freed themselves and tried to run away.Frisking of Dubey and Daniel led to the recovery of a country-made revolver and 13 live cartridges. Two rifles, 12 empty cartridges and a huge haul of explosives was seized in the raids at the houses.
