CHANDIGARH, MAY 13: Two Haryana Cabinet Ministers 8212; Brij Mohan Singla and Narbir Singh 8212; belonging to the Haryana Vikas Party HVP were sacked today on the recommendation of Chief Minister Bansi Lal, amid reports of an abortive bid to topple him.

Chief Minister Bansi Lal was not available for comments, but sources close to him and media reports claimed that the two ministers had recently tried to mobilise party dissidents against him.

Singla and Singh were sacked while they were on tour of their home districts of Jind and Gurgaon respectively.

Media advisor to Chief Minister, Rajiv Jain, told PTI that action against the two was a fallout of their alleged attempt to dislodge the Bansi Lal Government by organising a meeting of so-called dissidents at the Punjab Cricket Association Club in Mohali last week.

Jain said resignations were not sought from the two Ministers and they were straight away dismissed.

Answering a question, he said further action against some others, who reportedlyattended the Mohali meeting, was not expected soon.

A report in a local daily said that at least nine dissidents, including Singla and Singh, were present at the meeting on Friday.

Others had failed to reach the club, it said, adding that the toppling bid fizzled out, as the dissidents failed to touch the number of 12 required to cause a split in the HVP which has 35 MLAs in the 90-member Legislative Assembly.

Bansi Lal, who completed three years in office two days back, has so far either sacked or sought the resignation of six ministers on four different occasions.

Those who faced action earlier were Jaswant Singh, Dharam Vir, Krishna Gahlawat and Jaswant Singh Chaudhary.

Jaswant Singh had resigned while Gahlawat was dropped after she refused to quit on March 10 this year, when four ministers of State were sworn in.
