
SOLAN, June 15: Traffic on the Kalka-Shimla National Highway remained disrupted following a clash between rival truck operator unions at Parwanoo today. One person was injured in the clash. Two persons have been arrested in this connection.
The trouble began when a truck HR-03-5277 of the Parwanoo Truck Operators8217; Union was allegedly forcibly taken into possession by a group of nearly 15 persons belonging to the Transport Cooperative Society in Sector 5 area. Bags of fertilisers were to be loaded into the truck at a factory in the area.
The mob allegedly thrashed truck driver Ranjit Singh and forced him to return without loading the fertilisers. Immediately thereafter, nearly 250 men of the Parwanoo Truck Operators8217; Union went to the police station to lodge their protest.
The police rushed to the spot but it was alleged that a head constable was manhandled. However, the Transport Cooperative Society members resorted to a traffic blockade, charging the police with mercilessly beating them up without any reason. The police have arrested Nindheru and Shintu Bali on the charges of preventing government servants from performing official duty. Superintendent of Police M.l. Negi termed it a minor clash and claimed that the situation was completely under control.
