Triumph of science

With a number of ministries organising special programmes on the Women’s Day last week, the one that lost out was the Ministry for Women and Child Development. Its main function at India Gate clashed with a programme of the Science and Technology Ministry at Vigyan Bhawan. The S&T Ministry managed a coup by having President Pratibha Patil present to give away national awards to women achievers in science. What was galling was that one of the award winners, Rani Bang, was slated to receive an award from the Women and Child Development Ministry too— unable to be present there, she gave it a miss.
