Trinidad8217;s Darrel Brown took the world junior 100m title here today in the fastest time ever at the championships of 10.09 seconds 8212; 10 years after compatriot Ato Boldon won gold.

The 17-year-old 8216;Trinidad Express8217; led home a 1-2 for Trinidad and Tobago 8212; Marc Burns taking silver 8212; to give the Caribbean Islands genuine hope that with Boldon8217;s days at the top which brought him four Olympic medals and a 200m world title seemingly coming to an end they have a ready made successor. 8220;I8217;ve fulfilled my contract which was to win here,8221; Brown said.

8220;I always thought that we would get the 1-2 for our country and we didn8217;t really care who finished first or second.8221;

Brown was the quickest of the two out of the blocks and though Burns fought back it was not enough to stop his powerfully built team-mate keeping his nose in front. American Willie Hordge took bronze.

8220;I didn8217;t feel the pressure but in any case I enjoy running under those conditions,8221; Brown said.

Brown and Burns 8212; who are both due to run in the relay team at the Commonwealth Games later this month 8212; certainly impressed 1996 Olympic champion and former world record-holder Donovan Bailey, who presented them with the medals.

8220;These boys are fabulous,8221; the Jamaican-born naturalised-Canadian said. 8220;They both have different styles but technically are very fluid. They must both have received advice from Ato Boldon.8221;

While the Americans failed to dominate the men8217;s 100m they had better luck in the women8217;s version.

American Lauryn Williams took gold in 11.33sec ahead of Jamaica8217;s Simone Facey 11.43 while the winner8217;s compatriot Marshavet Hooker filled third in 11.48.
