
AMRITSAR, July 9: Tributes were paid to former governor of Punjab and Himachal Pradesh Surinder Nath at a function held today to observe his fourth death anniversary which falls today.
Minister of State for External Affairs R.L. Bhatia, general secretary of PCC Ratna were among those who paid tributes to the late governor and his family members who died in an air crash near Kullu four years ago.
A spokesman of the family, Ravi Mehta, told newsmen that a Surinder Nath Open Golf Tournament will be held every year in the memory of the former Governor.
Focal Points: Amritsar Deputy Commissioner Amarjit Singh has said that the focal points developed in the villages in the district will soon have facilities like post office, hospital, telephone exchange, petrol pump etc.
Addressing a press conference at Sarhali Kalan and Mohanpura focal points, he announced that the upcoming focal points would be spread over 20-acre of land instead of seven acres. He said at least 100 youths at every focal point will be given training and stipend during 1988-99. He said that Rs 7,500 subsidy would be given on loan of Rs 1 lakh at these points.
