Telecom service providers have only until Friday evening to respond to sector regulator Trai’s showcause notice on mobile network congestion. The regulator on Thursday told mobile players that they have had more than a year-and-a-half to take care of congestion in their networks.
Since they have failed to work out a satisfactory solution, they are not to get an extension on replying to the showcause notice, Trai said in a letter sent to the cellular operators association COAI, Bharti, BPL, Spice and Reliance Telecom today.
‘‘These companies were given time of 10 days from the date of issue of the notice (March 7) for submitting their reply,’’ the regulator said in the note. Service providers should settle disputes through discussions, or if they fail, through the telecom tribunal TDSAT, the regulator has told the operators and COAI in a letter issued on March 16.
