PUNE, May 2: The Poona Merchants8217; Chamber today dashed off a letter to the Chief Minister Narayan Rane and Health Minister Daulatrao Aher protesting strongly against the decision of the State Government to file non-bailable cases against those involved in adulteration.
In his letter, chamber president Rajesh Shah said, 8220;incarcerating a person in a non-bailable case even before he is proved guilty is unfair and unjust. A bail denied is justice denied. Even the accused in murder cases are granted bail.quot;
While claiming that the traders were anxious about the development, Shah warned that the Government would be held responsible for the loss suffered by the traders while they were lodged behind the bars as undertrials. He also opposed the Government8217;s decision of empowering the police officials of sub-inspectors and above ranks to file cases of adulteration.
