GURGAON, July 23: The statutory audit of Haryana Tourism complexes has brought out several irregularities including cases of cash embezzlement and misappropriation. The annual audit conducted by the Comptroller and Auditor General of India has pointed out an embezzlement of Rs 33,128 at the tourism's Dharuhera complex. The audit report says that the concerned officials had evolved a unique modus operandi whereby the voucher was of higher amount than the supporting bills. The report has pointed out embezzlement to the tune of Rs 16,594 at the Kingfisher complex, Ambala by depositing short sales. However, the amount was recovered later. The auditors also point out that proper records showing full particulars, including quantitative details and situation of fixed assets, have not been maintained. The report says that as per the rules of the corporation entire cash sales of a complex is to be deposited in the bank the very next day, however, during a test check at Dambama complex it was revealed that a sizable portion of the cash sales had been retained on several occasions in April 1996 and only a part of the previous days sales had been deposited in the bank during the whole month. The officials of the Haryana Tourism are of the view that the irregularities pointed out by the audit report are ``exaggerated''. The corporation is believed to have lodged protest with the CAG and demanded the changing of auditors.
