‘Todi offered us blank cheque to return Priyanka’

Rukhbanur said that though the Todis tried to pay them to separate Rizwan-Priyanka, money did not change hands.

The Todis had offered a blank cheque to Rizwanur Rehman’s family to separate him from his Hindu wife, Priyanka but they refused to accept it, the deceased computer graphics teacher’s elder brother Rukbanur Rehman said on Thursday, as the CBI team – investigating the case – checked bank accounts of the family.

“Priyanka’s uncle, Pradip Todi, had offered a blank cheque to separate the couple at the outset. There was no financial transaction with the Todis. If we were to take money we would have accepted the blank cheque in the first place,” Rukbanur said.

“Even a driver of the Todi family had subsequently offered ‘any amount’,” he said.

Rukbanur’s statement came following media reports that money had changed hands between the family members of Rizwanur and the Todis.

“This is a conspiracy by those who do not want the truth to come out,” he said adding that he was satisfied with the CBI investigation.

“We don’t think that any CBI officer has said this and it was fabricated by a section of the media,” he said.

Replying to a question he said, CBI has not asked for details of his bank account.

To another question whether the CBI was investigating his uncle’s bank account, he said, “We don’t know.”

Meanwhile, CBI Joint Director Arun Kumar refused to add anything on the allegations, saying, “Apart from that (the checking of the bank accounts of the family members) I can’t say anything.”

The CBI on Thursday checked the bank transactions of relatives of Rizwanur amid allegations that money changed hands.
