Businessman Ashok Todi may soon file a case against Rizwanur Rehman’s family for claiming that he had a hand in Rizwanur’s unnatural death.
Todi’s counsel Jaymalya Bagchi on Monday said Rizwanur’s brother Rukbanur Rehman and other family members had claimed at various points of time that Ashok Todi was the mastermind behind Rizwanur’s death. They had also alleged that Rizwanur was killed by criminals hired by the Todi family.
The CBI, which is conducting the inquiry, had recently taken Ashok Todi, Pappu and two police officers to its headquarters in Delhi for a polygraph test.
While ordering a CBI probe into the Rizwanur case on October 16, Justice Soumitra Pal of Calcutta High Court had directed Ashok Todi and five police officers, including former Commissioner Prasun Mukherjee, to file an affidavit by November 30.
Bagchi on Monday said Todi will place the affidavit before the court soon. The CBI will submit its report within two months of receiving the copy of the order, as per the High Court’s direction.
Meanwhile, counsels of the five police officers, including moved a petition seeking to extend the time limit for filing the affidavit before a Division Bench of Chief Justice S S Nijjar and Justice Tapen Sen.
The Division Bench is likely to hear the argument on Tuesday.
The Rizwanur case was fixed for hearing by Justice Pal on November 30. Since he is in the Andamans on official work, the matter will be heard after he returns.
