
CHENNAI, July 21: Chief Minister M Karunanidhi on Tuesday said the Tamil Nadu government would patiently wait till August 12, the deadline fixed by the Supreme Court for the Centre to come out with the Scheme8217; for implementation of the Cauvery Waters Disputes Tribunal8217;s interim award.
In an informal chat with media persons at the Secretariat on the directive of the three-member SC bench giving a last and final adjournment notice to the Centre on notifying the Scheme8217;, the CM said: 8220;Let us wait till August 128221;. The next phase of action could be thought of after that date.
Asked whether he thought the adjournment granted by the Apex Court would affect the interests of Tamil Nadu, he said the Court had ruled that this was the last adjournment. Even the Attorney-General of India had given an assurance to the Court that the decision on the Scheme8217; would be taken before August 12. The counsel for Tamil Nadu had stressed that this should be the last adjournment.
Questioned whether he thought that theCentre favoured Karnataka in the Cauvery dispute, the CM quipped: 8220;I do not feel like that. I hope the Centre will maintain its neutrality8221;.
On TMC president GK Moopanar8217;s suggestion that an all-party delegation could be taken by the CM to New Delhi to apprise Prime Minister AB Vajpayee on the need for gazetting the Scheme, he said: 8220;I think there is no necessity for such a delegation now. Let us see after August 12.8221;
