CHANDIGARH, Nov 18: The local DAV College won the Kapil Dev Trophy cricket for Chandigarh colleges beating Panjab University Campus by 105 runs in the final here today.

Chasing DAV College’s score of 240 for 9 in the allotted 40 overs, PU Campus were bundled out for 135. Rajinder Chaudhary was the wrecker-in-chief for DAV College, scalping three early wickets. Vinod Thakur, who had contributed 33 runs to the DAV College kitty, chipped in with two wickets. Only T D Singh (44) showed any semblance of resistance.

Earlier, Kamal Walia (53) and Vikram Minhas (47) propped up the DAV College innings.

Amit Dehra was the best allrounder, Prabhjot Singh best batsman and Sandeep Arora was declared the best bowler of the tournament.

Kapil Dev was the chief guest.

Scores: DAV College: 240 for 9 (Kamal Walia 53, Vikram Minhas 47, Yuvraj Singh 39, Vinod Thakur 33; Parvesh Kumar 2-4, Nitin Gupta 2-51) beat PU Campus: 135 (T D Singh 44, Jasminder Singh 20, Vikram Bhardwaj 18; Rajinder Chaudhary 3-2, Vinod Thakur 2-30).

Eight-time national gold medallist Simer Kaur of Yadvindra Public School, SAS Nagar has been selected as member of the Indian taekwondo team which will take part in the Asian Games to be held in Bangkok from December 6 to 16. She was also a member of the Indian team which took part in the second World Taekwondo Championship held at Turkey in last September.
