The Delhi Police Friday issued an advisory on possible traffic congestion as the Ministry of Culture organises celebrations at the Indira Gandhi Stadium in connection with the completion of 150 years of Vande Mataram.
With over 11,000 invitees expected to be arriving at the venue in over 1,000 cars and 300 buses, key stretches of the Capital will face congestion between 5 am and 2 pm. Major routes to be affected include Bahadur Shah Zafar (BSZ) Marg, Jawahar Lal Nehru Marg, MG Marg, IP Marg, and Vikas Marg, along with Secretariat Road and Velodrome Road.
The stretch from ITO to Yamuna Bridge will also be affected, as well as the Raj Ghat stretch. Parking will not be allowed on Velodrome Road, Secretariat Road, IP Marg, BSZ Marg, Vikas Marg, JLN Marg, MG Marg/Ring Road, Saleem Garh Bypass, and Power House Road during the event, which will also see Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressing the crowd.
The Delhi Police have also made elaborate traffic and security arrangements to ensure the smooth movement of a grand procession held by spiritual leader Dhirendra Krishna Shastri of Bageshwar Dham on the day.
The grand padayatra to be attended by over 50,000 devotees will start from Adhya Katyayani Mandir, Chhattarpur, at 11 am and proceed to Shree Banke Bihari Mandir in Uttar Pradesh’s Vrindavan. As a large convoy of vehicles is expected to gather for the journey, the traffic police have announced restrictions and diversions in and around the starting point and along the route of the padayatra in Mehrauli, South Delhi, on Friday.
The movement of Light Motor Vehicles (LMV) and private vehicles will be regulated or diverted on the following stretches to avoid traffic blocks.
– All types of vehicles will be restricted from Y-point, Chhattarpur, to Dera More on SSN Marg from 11 am to 8 pm.
–The movement of vehicles will be restricted from CDR Chowk to Y-point, Chhattarpur, and vice versa from 8 am to 4 pm.
–All types of vehicles will be restricted from Dera More to Y-point, Chhattarpur, and vice versa from 8 am to 8 pm. The movement of LMV and private vehicles will be regulated or diverted as per need during this period.
–The movement of all types of vehicles will be restricted from Zeer Khod to Dera More and vice versa from 1 pm to 10 pm on November 7, and from 7 am to 1 pm on November 8. The movement of LMV and private vehicles will be regulated or diverted as required during the period.
–Parking restrictions will be imposed on all kinds of vehicles from CDR Chowk to Dera Mandi and Zeer Khod from 8 am to 10 pm on Friday. The vehicles found parked on the above stretch will be towed away and prosecuted as per the law.
– Commuters have been advised to avoid SSN Marg, Chhatarpur Mandir Road, and 100 Foot Road, and plan their departure or take alternative routes to avoid delay.
– Commuters coming from SSN Marg and who intend to proceed towards Faridabad are advised to abstain from SSN Marg, but they can proceed straight on MG Road via CDR Chowk and ultimately reach their destination.
– Commuters from SSN Marg who are to travel towards the Gurgaon side via Zeer Khod Road are advised to use Mandi Road on CDR Chowk to reach their destination.
– Motorists from Dera Gaon going towards the Chhattarpur side will be diverted from Bandh Road towards Mandi Road to reach Mehrauli-Gurgaon Road.
All emergency vehicles, including vehicles of the Delhi Police, ambulances, fire brigade, and other emergency service vehicles, are allowed free access on the roads where restrictions or diversions have been put in place when proceeding on emergency duties. However, such vehicles are advised to avoid the above-mentioned stretches on Friday to prevent any inconvenience.
Commuters and motorists are advised to use public transport to avoid congestion on roads and plan their journeys, keeping in mind the heavy rush around Chhattarpur Mandir and SSN Marg.
