MARSEILLE, June 16: Three English soccer hooligans began jail sentences in France today and some two dozen more faced charges after violence before England8217;s World Cup game against Tunisia in Marseille yesterday.

Christopher Anderson and Graham Whitby, both 26, from Liverpool were jailed for three months and banned from France for a year for vandalism. James Shayler from Northamptonshire was jailed for two months, Marseille court officials said.

A further five people were ordered to be held in custody for up to a month, pending trial on more serious charges of assaulting police officers during a weekend of mayhem in the Mediterranean Port, a spokesman for the British Consul said.

About 50 Scottish football supporters considered dangerous by British police were held for four hours today in Bordeaux before being released hours ahead of Scotland8217;s World Cup match with Norway.

Police sources said the 50 were detained as they arrived at Bordeaux railway station from Spain. They had flown to Spain fromBritain.
