SURAT, July 22: In a major breakthrough, the Pandesara police have busted a gang of thieves operating in the city, by arresting three youths and seizing 10 television sets, four tape-recorders, five table and three ceiling fans, gold and silver ornaments, 19 cycles and a number of other household goods in the process. The accused have been remanded to police custody for two days.

Led by Additional Commissioner Pramod Kumar, the Pandesara police, along with members of the D-staff held three persons, who were identified as Rajkumar alias Marwadi alias Kallu Sahu, the leader of the gang, Surendra Sababat Pandey and Manoj alias Chhotelal Ramcharan Dubey, all residents of the city and aged between 25 and 30.

While Rajkumar is a resident of Bamroli Road area, Pandey resides at Hari Om Nagar at Pandesara and Dubey is a resident of Ishwarnagar at Pandesara.

Describing the modus operandi of the trio to Express Newsline Pandesara PI P P Pradhan said, the accused, who had been stealing goods for the past two years, usually broke in to locked houses and decamped with belongings and lifted locked cycles. 8220;They primarily operated in the Udhna, Limbayat, Sachin, Pandesara and surrounding areas,8221; Pradhan stated.

According to the police, Rajkumar, who worked as a vegetable vendor, had of late started an electronics shop where he sold second-hand goods. The police kept a watch and arrested him on Monday evening. His interrogation led the to the arrest of the other two members of the gang, the police added.

The three had already confessed of their involvement in 35 undetected cases, the police said, adding that they would be able solve many other cases as well.
