NAGPUR, JAN 13: Three persons were arrested today on the charge of murdering Maharashtra Janata Dal Vice-President and builder Balasaheb Agne last night.

Agne, an associate of former Railway Minister Ram Vilas Paswan, was gunned down at his Hanuman Nagar residence around nine last night allegedly out of old rivalry with the arrested persons.

The three accused were Vitthal Balpande and his two sons Pravin and Umesh. The arrests were made on the basis of the statement made by Suman Agne, wife of the deceased.

The 48 year old Agne was the son-in-law of former Congress(I) MLC Krishnarao Pandav.

Police sources said the murder, rooted in an old property dispute, was well-planned. As soon as Agne returned home from his office in the vicinity, the three accused confronted him. One of them pumped a bullet into his chest from his country-made revolver from point blank range, killing him on the spot. They immediately fled the place.

Agne was rushed to the government medical college hospital where he was declared dead on admission.
