June 16: Bosnia is due to sign the Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA), a first step towards an eventual European Union membership.

June 16- 27: Japan’s Crown Prince Naruhito visits Brazil to celebrate 100 years of Japanese immigration to that country.

June 17-19: The fourth annual summit of Nobel Prize winners will take place in Petra, Jordan. At the summit they will discuss possible solutions to the world’s problems, including the current food crisis. Among the participants are the Dalai Lama, Mikhail Gorbachev and Kofi Annan.

June 18: The Israeli parliament (Knesset) may vote on a bill proposed by opposition member Silvan Shalom to dissolve itself, forcing an early election in November. The proposal comes amid corruption allegations against Prime Minister Ehud Olmert.

June 20: It’s the United Nations World Refugee Day. UN High Commissioner for Refugees estimates that some 40 million people worldwide are uprooted by violence and persecution, and that number is only likely to increase in the coming year.
