A distinguished panel of doctors will answer your health queries in this column every week:

8226; When I was 14, I noticed that I was feeling tired after running several yards during a cricket match. My heartbeat went up, and there was a sharp pain in my jaw. It disappeared after I sat down and drank some cold water. Now I8217;m 27 and the condition still persists. It happens every time I run. I have consulted many doctors, but in vain. Please suggest what I should do.

Dr K Srinath Reddy, Head of the Department, Cardiology, AIIMS, says:

Rapid heart beat can be a natural result of exertion, which goes down when you drink cold water. However, when combined with a pain in the jaw, it may indicate angina. But that is unusual in someone your age. While some of the symptoms you related may be relatively non-specific and if several doctors have examined you and found nothing, then maybe there8217;s nothing wrong with your heart. Still, it is advisible that you get yourself checked by a competent cardiologist.
