THE BOSS

As the name suggests, this PC is for the CEO8212;one who doesn8217;t mind shelling out more for better

.

This computer comes with a clear job profile: to serve the boss. So the name isn8217;t too much of a surprise. The Boss PC, released by VU technologies, has a host of features targeted for the pleasure and ease of use of the upper echelons of companies.

8220;Our research showed that most CEOs and CIOs continue to use desktop computers. They are also older and viewing a 12-inch monitor is not easy for them,8221; says Devita Saraf, CEO, VU Technologies. To counter this, the Boss PC comes with a standard 22-inch flat monitor, which allows the users to open two windows simultaneously, in a way that both can be read easily.

While the monitor8217;s size optimises the viewing of two A4 sized sheets, the real magic lies behind the screen. The CPU, the nerve centre of the computer where the hard disk and the processor are housed, is the size of a tiffin box. This CPU, which has an Intel Core 2, 1.66 GHz processor, is mounted behind the monitor and can be removed and taken wherever the user wants.

At 1.3 kg, not only does the CPU increase the computer8217;s mobility, but also its security. When the user is done with the day8217;s work, he can take the CPU home and be sure its safe. The CPU can also be connected to more than one screen, so you can work at the office and at home use it to watch a movie on its DVD combo drive. The built-in sound system, which supports high definition audio, makes the experience worthwhile.

There8217;s more. 8220;Most of the maintenance is for the CPU and the monitor barely requires to be changed,8221; says Saraf. So maintenance and upgradation becomes a lot quicker as no large metal cabinet has to be opened, tampered with and then screwed back on.

However, the Boss PC does have a major drawback8212;its price. The standard monitor and the CPU cost Rs 65,000. The same configuration, without the screen and inclusive of software and a wireless keyboard, is for Rs 40,000. This desktop has been created by VU technologies, California, which has been brought into the country by Zenith computers.

The entire range of VU technologies products is aimed at a lifestyle market as opposed to the cheaper-is-better philosophy of Zenith computers. It shows.
