8226; The generosity of India and the Indian government must be appreciated by all Sri Lankans. Watching the TV news, my 11-year-old son told me, 8220;While themselves being severely affected by the disaster, India is still helping with aid to Sri Lanka at this moment. Isn8217;t it great! As Sri Lankans we must be thankful to the Indian government. Father, why did you not say something about it on your website?8221; Yes I, too, wholeheartedly agree with him. Thank you India, thank you very much. Only a great country with great people and a great government can act like that.

Reaching out
8226; It broke my heart to read that the prisoners of Tihar Jail collected Rs 75,000 among themselves for the tsunami victims. On the other hand, many city dwellers are still going ahead with the plans for New Year parties. I appeal to all of them to divert the funds to relief work for those millions of our countrymen who have lost their loved ones.

8226; There should be no New Year Parties and mindless spending on 31st night. Instead, the money must be diverted to the grieving families of the numerous victims of the tsunami. Partying when our fellow Indians are suffering due to devastation and loss of loved ones will be grossly insensitive.

8226; The disaster that struck Southeast and South Asia brought nothing but pain, destruction and human deaths in their tens of thousands. We need to set up an infrastructure of equipment and trained personal in relief work to rush to disaster affected places, following American methods of instant relief when hurricanes, flooding and tornadoes strike every year.

Another question
8226; This is in response to,8216;Six questions that don8217;t go away8217;IE, Dec 29. I have another. Why did Nero fiddle after the waves lashed our shores? Most people in the Indian Air Force were aware of the location of a helicopter and a radar unit on Car Nicobar Island, a few hours after the tsunami hit, so it was shocking for some to see the air chief attending a wedding reception at the Air Force Auditorium, that same afternoon. Was attending to the welfare of his personnel who were in distress not a priority for him?

Death with dignity
8226; Apropos of the report, 8216;Tsunami death toll crosses 68,0008217; IE, December 29, we need to take note of the fact that the bodies of victims of the tsunami disaster are being disposed of in the most uncivilised manner. The world may not care for the poor of our land but let us show them that we do. Let us give the deceased a proper, civil and indeed a dignified burial or cremation.

I disagree
8226; Apropos of Ashok Malik8217;s article, 8216;The Thanedaar State8217; IE, Dec 22, the argument that the law should be different for rich, multinational e-companies cannot be condoned. If Baazee.com takes its commission, then it owes us some responsibility. When greed dominates, basics are forgotten.
