BANGKOK, FEBRUARY 3: A Thai court jailed Thuingaleng Muivah, general secretary of the outlawed National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN-IM) for a year after he was convicted of using fake documents, court officials said Thursday.
Muivah, 66, was jailed after he was arrested at Sanqkhla airport in southern Thailand while trying to board a flight using a fake Singaporean passport.
Muivah had been arrested on the same charge while travelling on a counterfeit South Korean passport on January 19 but jumped bail.
The NSCN, which reached a ceasefire with the Government two years ago, has held several rounds of peace talks with the Government since the ceasefire came into force, with the last meeting taking place in Bangkok in November.
The NSCN is fighting for an independent tribal homeland for the majority Nagas in Nagaland. Some 25,000 people have died in violence linked to the insurgency.
